Remembering Those Cartoon Shows That Were Suddenly Cancelled With Almost To No Finale At All

Here's Watch Mojo having the top ten children's cartoon shows that were suddenly canceled. Most of them didn't have a finale except the Sonic the Hedgehog (which was a darker spin on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog) by DIC. But do you remember these shows? I just thought I'd like to write and ramble about it after watching it. Now it's time to do some rambling again...

Who can remember the Hanna Barbera superheroes?

There were various such as when Hanna Barbera had the Marvel license way before Toei and later Haim Saban would have the permission to adapt it. I remembered the Fantastic Four cartoon which for me was meh compared to Saban's Marvel Action Hour -- this is coming from someone who doesn't like Power Rangers! These shows never had a definite finale like many American superheroes. The Fantastic Four cartoon by Hanna Barbera only had 13 episodes and the final episode involved series original villain the Director. So really is that the best we've got?

I remembered watching Galtar and Thundarr the Barbarian which sadly didn't do so well. Too bad that Galtar never had a final showdown between Galtar and Tormac for the shield. I guess ratings were so bad that budget for a finale never got allocated. Then there was also SWAT Kats which was canceled presumably to networks deeming it "too violent" -- typical soccer moms may have been the cause of the death of the series. It was a nice series especially that Dark Kat didn't feel too much like the typical American villain -- he was frightening and menacing. SWAT Kats' final episode was just like every other episode. Captain Planet too also ended up like that -- the final episode was them shutting down a puppy mill by Dr. Blight. I wish Zarn's unholy alliance of polluters was the finale and that it ended the series in a high note. Unfortunately, Captain Planet's executives got too greedy and decided to really keep it going until it just got canceled due to a lack of ratings.

Who can remember some Marvel cartoons whether they were produced by Saban or by Fox?

Some of them had really long runs (such as the X-Men The Animated Series which is probably still considered the best X-Men adaptation ever) or those that got canceled in less than a year such as Spiderman (1981), Avengers: United We Stand, and that Marvel Action Hour didn't get a third season. These series never had a finale -- maybe except for Spiderman during the 90s which had both Spiderman and Madame Web recover Mary Jane off-screen. X-Men didn't have much of an epic finale except Professor Xavier getting taken into space and Magneto canceling whatever plans he had to punish humanity.

Then I remembered a couple of shows by DiC such as Pro-Stars (which the 13th episode or finale was just a rewind) or Wizard of Oz.

I remembered being fascinated by the Wizard of Oz cartoon which was supposedly a "sequel" to the late Judy Garland's movie. The Wizard of Oz cartoon featured a resurrected Wicked Witch of the West. The final episode was just the balloon race and the witch escaping because it was raining. I always wondered why ABC-5 didn't air new episodes of said show -- it's because there are NO new episodes. I guess it's safe to assume the Wicked Witch of the West died in the rain. No finale though and it was a bummer! Pro-Stars did get a bit of wrap-up and it was the end of the fictionalized version of famous athletes.

Then were was Mighty Orbots which I think was pathetically sued by the Gobots

So what really with this Japanese-produced (but American-voiced) show? I remembered the nightmare fuel that was Lord Umbra -- a giant five-eyed jelly-like monster. It was a good thing that was was still a finale with Umbra's defeat where he promised he'd return but never did. I guess it was really that just makes you want to say, "SHUT UP UMBRA! YOU'RE DEAD!" Then that's it!

Then DiC has one legendary disaster of a show. Do you remember Conan and the Young Warriors?

I'd rather disregard it as a non-canon spin-off that's worse than Conan the Destroyer. At least Taramis in Conan the Destroyer was a much bigger threat than Sulinara -- though she did get a "tribute" in Conan the Adventurer in the form of Mesmira the Queen of Stygia. The series was so terrible we never got to see the three brats become the rulers of Hyboria. Heck, it makes you wonder why Set even tolerated Sulinara when he had better servants such as Ram-Amon and Wrath-Amon to serve him in the real Hasbro Conan cartoon?

Hasbro also had their own canceled cartoons too

The company that created G.I.Joe and Transformers were also other cartoons that were canceled too soon. Bucky O' Hare was short-lived up to only 13 episodes so we never know what plans were in for the Toad Empire. Another was Inhumanoids which was just far too mature for the target audience.

What memories do you have of such cartoons from your childhood if you're a 90s child?
