Disney is one company that once produced many of my beloved childhood movies. Some of these movies in my parents' time are like Cinderella, Snow White, and The Rescuers. The 90s gave me some of my favorite films which they RUINED with bland remakes such as Beauty and the Beast (which is personally my favorite) and Aladdin. Now, it's time to consider the douchery that's Disney and the possibility it's trying to ruin the free market capitalist system in the United States. Hmmm... maybe they're among the forces trying to get protectionism to be the new thing - to protect their own interests!
Disney right now seems to be ruining competition by buying off competitors. The moment Marvel and Fox were bought by Disney - I had a red alarm already. The Marvel Comics these days are now full of unnecessary retcons (such as the parentage of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch is no longer that of Magneto's family tree) or just worse plots left and right. Another you can name is that Disney is already owning Lucasfilms. I have to admit that the Disney canon of Star Wars is just bland in contrast to the Legends canon. Why am I not even surprised that Forbes even has had recorded The Rise of Skywalker to be a very terrible film? I even feel Palpatine's presence is obviously a desperate bailout but suddenly making her "Bam! I'm your grandpa Rey!" is just somehow anti-climatic. At least, there was some buildup in the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy made up for it. The new Disney canon just proves newer won't always be better.
This is the reality of the free market capitalist system. Once you get rid of the competition then you get rid of competitiveness. Local businesses in an economic protectionist environment are bound to be incompetent. Disney has been buying off the competition. Disney buying off the competition added more work than they could handle. Before, they had to compete against Lucasfilm and Marvel. Now, they own both. The result is that they can't have quality control. Marvel used to be able to compete better because it had more focus. Now, Marvel ends up having to bow down to Disney's social justice idiocy. Now, Lucasfilm has too. If you think about it - the Legends canon of Star Wars seriously had more interesting stories. Would have Disney chosen not to buy off competition then they would have remained competitive. But in buying off competition from the free market - Disney is becoming more monopolistic and the quality is going down.
This is a real threat to any free-market capitalist system. It's capitalists who would rather limit the competition than allow it. They view all competition as threats while they are threats themselves. Disney should probably just be considered as a giant consumerist blob than a free market capitalist player. Right now, it pains me but I think Disney should be shut down if they're only bent on destroying free market capitalism with their consumerism. Right now, it's just a consumerist than a capitalist by slowly consuming the competition.
