Still Remembering "Yie Ar Kung Fu" (NES Version)

Yie Ar Kung Fu is one of those Konami games I played on the NES back in the 90s.It was a classic though the bummer was that once you reached stage five -- you got caught in a loop. Yes, a lot of games back then only ended when you finally got a game over. It was a measurement of endurance to how long you can outlast the CPU.

The hero was Lee (an obvious reference to Bruce Lee and his character in Enter the Dragon). The five opponents you fought were Wang the pole fighter, Tao the fire spitter, Chen uses chains, Lang the female fighter, and Mu the final boss was a bald guy who can perform flying punches. The group was apparently called the Chop Suey Gang. Chop Suey is an American dish made by Chinese immigrants during the earlier days. The gang was later defeated and a less popular sequel was released which I wasn't able to play.

Though, the original Yie Re Kung Fu release for the arcades was much differerent. The game featured Oolong and more than five opponetns were fought. So far, I never played this version either since I was never able to get the PSX's Konami collection game.

What are your memories of this old school game?
