Satirical News: Rep. Sarah Elgago Calls For Banning Of "Collectors" On Netflix Along With "Pinoy Entertainment Supremacy Bill"

Representative Sarah Jane I. Elgago has been no stranger to controversy. Elgago decided to launch a new controversial bill called "The Pinoy Entertainment Supremacy Bill". Elgago presented the bill with other lawmakers such as Arlene Brosas of Gagabriela, Antonio Tinio of Alliance of Complaining Teachers, and Carlos Zarate of Bayad Muna. The bill was primarily authored by Elgago who decided to raise the bill a day after Collectors (a Korean film) premiered on Netflix.

Elgago was given her standing podium to which she started to demand the removal of Collectors from Netflix. She cited that the film is a bad influence for the youth and that, as a representative of Kabataan Partylist, she wants to protect the youth from bad influence. She said that the film is teaching the youth to disrespect national treasures. She showed certain scenes from the congress. However, some members of the congress commented that it may be because Shin Hye Sun looks quite like her - minus the whiter skin. Some comments were blasted at her that it may be because countless memes were produced out of the movie's screenshots making fun of her.

Not wanting to give up, Elgago then read the "Pinoy Entertainment Supremacy Bill". The provisions she placed in the first draft stated as follows:

  • This will be a bill that will require Filipinos to patronize local media. That is they are mandated to buy at least one OPM new release and patronize one teleserye. Failure to do so will mandate a penalty one month's worth of salary.
  • That Netflix Philippines (and other related services) will only show Filipino shows all the time. Strict monitoring of Netflix will be done that all Netflix subscribers can't bail out and must watch at least one show. It will serve as a provision if people can't watch teleseryes because of work and studies.
  • Remember the libel clause of the anti-cybercrime law? Expect that bloggers who badmouth Filipino entertainment will suffer imprisonment of two years or more and a fine of PHP 100,000.00 or even higher. Offenses such as giving a thumbs down on the Internet will also be considered a cybercrime and said person is a candidacy for arrest.
  • That the local Filipino networks such as ABS-CBN and GMA-7 will no longer be required to renew their franchise every 25 years. They will have the right to dominate both satellite and cable. Think about foreign channels? They will be gone as only proudly Pinoy channels will be shown in both media.
  • No Filipino is allowed to bring in any media from abroad. Airports will now be very strict with making sure that none of them slip through. Bringing in media will be a violation of smuggling laws and will be dealt with accordingly. Also, mobile phones must contain only OPM music and failure to do so will warrant stiff penalties.
  • The next mission is to bring Pinoy entertainment worldwide. Tourists are not allowed to leave the Philippines unless they buy at least one Pinoy entertainment media.
The proposal was read widely in the open. Members of congress started to get mad and threw rotten tomatoes at Elgago and those who drafted the law with her. Later, she was rushed to the Patrick Star Hospital after suffering from another hypertension. The Patrick Star Hospital was too full of people infected with vaccine-immune Pinklawan Variant after Vice President Leni Loud Robredo's free lugaw event. Elgago was later released a few hours later as the doctors say she was being OA.
