It's no secret that Power Rangers was taken from Super Sentai. Super Sentai also has come blatant pop cultural references. One could even think of the older James Bond movies or those sci-fi movies where people talk through watches. I doubt everything that happens in superhero films can happen. Superhero shows are full of villains with crackpot schemes and get too good to be true. However, some things can happen (in part) such as communicating through a wrist communicator.

The smartwatches may not control satellites or grant morphing powers. Morphing powers are purely entertainment. However, the smartwatch is a REAL COMMUNICATOR. Sure, there wouldn't be some weird power such as communication with a giant floating head or super powerful range. What can't be denied is that the smartwatch might remind some of some childhood sci-fi.
