Unnecessarily Stupid Moves in Writing Fiction

In any fiction writing, there are the unnecessary moves that are done.  After watching Zeo as a child, I got WTFed over Kimberly's Dear John letter and thought there are other stupid moves done in fiction in general like...

The Dear John Letter setting.  Why do I say it's stupid?  Okay I can understand that Amy Jo Johnson was leaving the show to pursue career improvements, however it just was so WTF to break her character up with Tommy with the reason she met somebody else.  That makes it very out-of-character for her turning her character Kimberly into a slut of sorts.   I don't like to use Dear John letters except for antagonistic characters.

Not letting your characters improve.  In real life, some people don't improve but some do.  Come on, since they are just fiction why not let them improve?  I've enjoyed Spongebob for quite some time but I'm starting to dislike the show because the characters just don't improve.  Spongebob's failing his driving exam many times isn't funny anymore I feel sorry for him, Squidward's bad attitude just get worse while I feel sorry for him having to endure Spongebob's no improved life, Mr. Krabs' greed makes him worse than Plankton and Patrick well he's not funny anymore but got rather too annoying much later.  If Nickelodeon could make Addie improve, why not these characters?

A sudden change in personality of characters with little or no explanation to why it happened.  My favorite example would be Cobra Commander.  For the Cobra Commander, while he was originally introduced as a military genius like Megatron, he was later turned into aYosemite Sam like character as the series went by causing him to be replaced by the much more crazy Serpentor.  Galvatron did have an explanation with his plasma incident, for Cobra Commander in the cartoons, none.  Although the comics Cobra Commander went from competent leader to insane as Galvatron with some explanations to that he already had a mental defect.  Killing him off was probably to keep things realistic.

Useless characters.  This is why I tend to get Tokusatsu adaptation phobia.  Power Rangers for me isn't really a bad franchise, it has its moments but characters like Cassidy and Devin.  I would say they are pretty useless as they don't do anything to the plot.  The mistake was also done in Kamen Rider Ryuki with the addition of Megumi into the ORE Journal though at least she doesn't appear as often as Cassidy or at least she's got more connection.  And also Spike from Power Rangers Samurai enters this list- he's only funny when he's bashed and hurt for me.

Random deaths of heroes.  Well if Toshiki Inoue wanted to really do Joe Asakura justice, he could have killed Gai Yuki in the finale instead and then the latter can later appear as a ghost in the wedding of Ryu and Kaori.  Oh boy, this caused the 20-year debate whether or not Gai Yuki had died and I was at the losing side.  Maybe it's because my friend survived his mugging, he didn't.

Without development, suddenly they are a couple.  It's a common mistake by writers even myself to do this. In Toshiki Inoue's case, his wedding of Nago and Megumi was probably meant for laughs in Kiva's lighthearted world.  That ending cracked me up.

I might want to add cruelly treating comedy characters.  Toshiki Inoue's guest writing in Gokaiger was what I might call the most cruel episode ever written in Gokaiger, treating poor Gai Ikari like he's an idiot.  No explanation was even given why he can't see Gai Yuki!

Killing couples who have a good chemistry in the most unexpected way.  Jean Grey's death and their break was the worst thing ever.  So pretty much, I felt sorry for Cyclops with the incident not that I approved of his affair with Emma Frost, but still.  How can this keep happening?! =(

Overextended seasons. Series like MMPR, Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Spongebob, One Piece, etc. are examples of quality dies when too much quantity is added.  MMPR extended up to Zeo to the Zordon arc which really messed things up and PR in Space was so messy.  Fortunately Power Rangers began to follow its original counterpart's way of doing things with Super Sentai.  Well the overextension of the Zordon arc caused a lot of horrid writing I don't want to keep elaborating about.

Worse comes to worst, a jerkass move.  Spongebob 2019 is probably the best example of hate fic writing or as SailorGokaiMoon calls it a really messed up story that Viacom and Nickelodeon would want to get rid of.  Gokaiger vs. Samurai or as Chris X calls it "More like Arnold whining how much he hates Power Rangers" scenario was also a jerkass move.  All I can say is, it's okay to dislike Power Rangers but to write a jerkass story is too much.
