Academics vs. Practice: What's Going On?

Sometimes it has become an issue just anywhere where education has lost its close gap with practice. Okay a person can be a graduate from a prestigious school, learn the theories but the problem of application has become a reality.  Talk about the "stupid genius" and the "idiotic scholar".  As oxymoron these terms are, it's a reality that we face.  Many people today are degree holders but they FAIL to actually be discerning of the SIMPLE and PRACTICAL because they got too used to the theoretical environment.  What does that mean?  They become too good in the classroom that however they FAIL to really put what they learn into practice.  Or perhaps they have become too learned they feel that success is just behind them when they could actually be repelling success away.

What I believe is happening is because these people may actually be too focused on reading they FAIL to see the reality of what's going on around them when the research is over.  Is it any wonder why failures happen also among the learned?  In fact, I have even begun to question the importance of having a "higher education" if one were not pursuing the fields of dentistry, medicine and law or why are companies demanding a graduate degree for businessmen?  Most people even fail to see that some of the most successful businessmen were so poor they didn't go to College!  Okay I don't undermine a College education as a graduate but learning is so much different in the real world than the College environment.  Talk about it- a College student gets conned by a close friend while a non-degree holder was more discerning.

Now there is the story of the four scholars and the dead lion.  The three decided to look for the value of their education in bringing the dead lion back to life which they all knew.  The fourth one said that applying such knowledge would be deadly and refused to join because it was such a dangerous act.  The other three put their knowledge to use but in such an impractical way.  Common sense would have dictated that the lion would PROWL at them and KILL THEM the moment it came alive.  The other scholar hid right away knowing that it was a very dangerous thing to do.  So what he did was to simply know that not all knowledge equals wisdom.  Or talk about how certain people with high degrees of intelligence in science and mathematics all end up creating weapons of war and destruction rather than pursue for peaceful solutions.

Or let's talk about that we're actually destroying the natural order of the pyramid.  Today we are now having too much lecture, too much reading, too much research, learning too much statistical tools that won't be used daily (and yes, statistics while it's a very helpful tool for research can end up misused out of impracticality) and the list can go on.
