#ThrowbackThursdays: I Hated My High School Life So Much

I don't want to deny that while there are good things to look back to -- there are still some bad things that I could remember. One of them is studying in a rather difficult high school and barely passing every year! Not to mention the issue of high school life can be so difficult especially for a rage-prone teenager! What sucked about high school for me? Teenage years can be that stressful especially with hormones that result in acne, when I think about how some girl of my dreams treats me like I don't exist, how I often competed with a former rival for a girl's affections, how there were the cooler guys who were spoiled by their parents and not to mention loads of pressure. Yes, loads of pressure especially when you had to study subjects assigned to your year level -- subjects that I just didn't find practical because I didn't see how they'd help me in my real life career! What subjects were those? I could think about chemistry (especially stoichiometr...

Why Saying "It's Just a Degree" Isn't Always True

One of the things one can say about College education is that, "It's always just a degree."  But how true is is it?  For one, you can name some people who dropped out and succeeded.  But not all dropouts are successes.  On the other hand, some people have a modest education, others don't.  It's a case to case basis. Now why is the statement "It's just a degree." not always true?  Let's take a look at these professions that require a degree: When you need a construction project done, remember your engineer and your architect has a degree. Not anyone can be an engineer.  If you ask me, becoming an engineer is not an easy feat.  It takes people with good technical skills and adept Math skills.  You cannot just design your own complex house and let it stand.  It takes a good architect and a good engineer to get a job done. When you get sick, remember your doctor has a degree.   Becoming a doctor is a life/death situation and...

Oldie But Goodie: Do Bar Exam Results Determine the Success of a Lawyer?

It's an old news but I feel like I need to write this one.  In life, grades do not always determine success.  Actually sometimes we see those who are delinquents and don't study at all, tend to go to failure.  But studying is NOT the only determinant.  For the field of law, one might figure out about the bar ratings.  In fact, even Miriam Defensor Santiago herself admitted she almost failed the bar herself ! One might think Vitaliano Aguirre Jr. is a good lawyer because of his consistent valedictory ranking and his 85.25% bar rating in contrast to Miriam Santiago.  Atty. Aguirre here is also the lawyer of Lacson, Duterte and the lead counsel of Webb.  And also, he is a lawyer for the Nobita Liberal Party.  But looking at the Philippine education system, the system itself sucks as it's very left behind.  Outdated information in what should be updated. A lot of DepEd textbooks are prone to multiple error and are recommended over textbooks fro...

Credit Card Facts: Something that Finance-Related Classes Should Tackle On!

I was pretty much incensed by a comment that told me that since I was taking graduate school for business then at least I should know about credit card's other promotions which I find an insulting remark.  Okay enough of the comment but I really thought of it that credit cards should be discussed in class because for one thing, it's already becoming a trend that has lead to foolishness especially by a younger generation.  So what I thought was that looking back at case studies in business education, there hasn't been any credit card related case study and how they work.  I guess back then, the schools were pretty outdated and people hardly used them but now they ought to be discussed.  For one, I just thought of it that losing a lot of money in a faulty transaction believing the person will pay me back was a bad thing, not knowing much about credit card promotions is another.  So I pretty much had to think that though I was giving such scathing remark the other...

Academics vs. Practice: What's Going On?

Sometimes it has become an issue just anywhere where education has lost its close gap with practice. Okay a person can be a graduate from a prestigious school, learn the theories but the problem of application has become a reality.  Talk about the  "stupid genius"  and the  "idiotic scholar" .  As oxymoron these terms are, it's a reality that we face.  Many people today are degree holders but they FAIL to actually be discerning of the SIMPLE and PRACTICAL because they got too used to the theoretical environment.  What does that mean?  They become too good in the classroom that however they FAIL to really put what they learn into practice.  Or perhaps they have become too learned they feel that success is just behind them when they could actually be repelling success away. What I believe is happening is because these people may actually be too focused on reading they  FAIL  to see the reality of what's going on around them when th...
