It's really something when a tune gets popular and it gets a cover, right? "Rouge" by Miyuki Nakajima is the original song that got a cover by Faye Wong. Hong Kong's Cantopop industry did covers of Japanese, Filipino, and American songs. The song "Rouge" was covered by Wong under the name "Broken Hearted Woman" in Mandarin and Cantonese. I kind of prefer Wong's Mandarin cover. Wong also sang the English cover "Please Don't Go Away" while Jessica Jay had an English cover "Broken Hearted Woman". Cally Kwong also sang the Mandarin version. It's a misconception that you must only enjoy anything of your generation which is just stupid.  Why do I think that is so?  I always thought of how certain people say that I'm "baduy" which can be translated as "out of fashion" because I always enjoy classical music.  I am the type of person who can chill out with listening to the classical pieces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Johann Strauss, Frederick Chopin, George Frederick Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach and Richard Wagner are among a few.  Classical music was never meant to be enjoyed at just one era but for all ages. If you want to know how I even got into golden oldies, it was thanks to modern films.  I always felt like Meteor Garden and other Chinese films provide a gateway of the past.  It's funny how watching the 2001 version of Romance in the Rain actually got me interested with the classic Qiong Yao series.  Yes, I personally am not all that used to seeing Liu Xuehua...

Who says old music can't be appreciated?  This beautiful Chinese song features Liu Yi Fei, its effect is very soothing to the ears and down to the heart, it was an edited video though but I just love it.  Pretty much, it relaxes me.  I've had some anger moods a lot but this song calms my nerves.

This is the version of Ye Lai Xiang (Night Fragrance) as I remember my late paternal grandmother would listen over an old cassette tape or the old phonograph.  It's a pretty nice old song which was later popularized by the late Teresa Teng but compared to that of Teresa Teng's, I really prefer Li Xiang Lan's music way better.   Now below is an English translation: That blowing southern wind brings cool and refreshing air. Here's one of those old songs that I'll never forget.  It does carry some meaning.  After all, based on its history, Pete Seger in 1956 saw the slogan that said, " Where are the flowers, the girls have plucked them. Where are the girls, they've all taken husbands. Where are the men, they're all in the army."  The lines were taken from a traditional Cossack song.  It was first a medley then it got more lyrics from Joe Hickerson.   More versions came, some better, some worse... and I like this song so much for some reason.  And the older versions are just my favorite especially the Kings Trio who later acknowledged Pete Seger and Joe Hickerson.  So I hope this anti-war song will communicate to us...
