  I've suffered from low self-esteem issues. I had Beast's temper -- getting mad at almost everything if things never went my way. I related to Beast more than Gaston. The reason was because Gaston had the admiration of the crowd. Beast was self-isolated and having skin problems as a teenager NEVER HELPED. Teenage years are pretty much like I want to grow up and not grow up -- at the same time! I saw the inner beast that needed to be squashed. I felt I needed that fabled beauty back as a TEENAGER. It should be something to think about.  And of course that awkward incident... This reminds me of a couple of women I felt could "break me out of my curse". I remembered another song that left an earworm with me was the song "When I Hear Applause". I had no idea what its title was back then. This song keeps getting sung in Chinese restaurants. Here's a song that gave me an earworm wondering what the title was for years. Fortunately, there's some technology that helps us find an OLD SCHOOL song. Google voice search is amazing. This song is called "Awaken from a Dream" by Sarah Chen - also the same song that launched her career and kept her popular even after her retirement. I could remember how I heard this song in Chinese restaurants more often than not. Granted, I grew up in the Philippines so Chinese isn't my first-hand language. The 90s have some memories. One of them was the airing of the 144 episodes long La Viuda De Blanco which is translated as The Widow in White . The story was pretty long so I never got to get the geist of it until years later. There was the mesmerizing beauty of Columbian actress Maria Helena Doering (who's still that pretty past her prime) in the role of Alicia. Alicia's part is where she was wrongly accused of murdering her husband and found to be innocent sometime later, her custody battle with Dona Perfecta (acted by Consuelo Luzardo) for her twin sons, and her sudden romance with her brother-in-law Diego (Osvaldo Rios) the leading man.  The Columbian drama was aired on ABC-5 and later on Solar TV (which I think was owned by ABS-CBN). As a 90s child and a 2000s teenager - one of the many things I could remember was playing video games without understanding ANYTHING. Yes, we're talking about Japanese entertainment. What truly upsets me with Japan right now is their lack of aggressiveness in the international market. Also, I think about screw it over with Japanese exclusive stuff.   I remembered there was this joke from the Tekken series where the arcade mode had the words "Insert Coin" still in the console. It was like bringing the game home from the arcade. What made me laugh was when my sister and cousins would joke, "Do you have a token?" Then I thought of the emergence of the PS2 which actually defeated the Sega Dreamcast. Dreamcast was defeated and hence began Sega's transition to a third-party developer.  So, there were the first three Tekken games and they did add content. However, the first three games didn't get that well of graphics since they were adding content. What could be noticed though was that the sixth generation consoles did better. Sega vs. Sony is such a fond memory. Back then, I actually whined back then for almost everything I wanted. We had an old Family Computer and later had a moderate LONG enjoyment of the first Playstation which eventually broke down. Then I remembered getting the PS2 then much later the PS3. The 1990s also had one memory of people having Sega Systems and me being jealous. Namely, it was because I was a crazed fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. Later, I ended up playing the classics on the PS2 and many of them tested my skill rather painfully.  Sega had the Sega Genesis and the Sega Megadrive. Then it happened - Sega Saturn was launched and Sony released the Playstation. I wish I had both though I'm currently thankful I had only one of them before. Though I received the PS1 on sale like I got the PS2 on sale. It's no doubt that I like and dislike chemistry SIMULTANEOUSLY. It's one thing to consider to love the study of different topics like the applications of chemistry, linking biology to chemistry, or whatever memorization and simple computations are there. However, I do still dislike stoichiometry like I don't like performing accounting cycles on my own. Both stoichiometry and accounting are important though I get dizzy doing balancing while I understand why I need to study them. Stoichiometry is a subject that requires extreme precision otherwise EVERYTHING blows up. I get panicky about it though it does get interesting to rediscover chemistry even if I'm no longer pressured by problem-solving. The science of weight loss is one. I have been trying to burn calories since I got myself a pedometer. Now, I wanted to know how do you lose weight? It's not that emphasized in high school biology except in qualitative matters. Sometimes, I wonder why I even fell for a girl thinking she was so hot when she was not. Bad taste? Maybe. But I was thinking about all the traits that would make me want her. The girl resembled Shin Hye Sun in some way. I find it amazing right now I could watch through anything with Shin Hye Sun without really thinking about the girl or my mother's uncalled-for reaction toward her face. If anybody was truly physically THAT UGLY - I'd say it was my so-called first love who I label as "Mileena". I could remember how I depreciated myself because of her "perfection" when she wasn't. I struggled in high school but she was on the top. I could remember the time I actually had Disney's Beauty and the Beast as an inspiration for going after her. I imagined myself as a cursed beast needing her to break the spell. She may not be Belle externally but she was, at least, internally. She had Belle's love for reading and that drew me to her. I remembered the time when the Playstation was probably just as coveted - if not the msot coveted system ever. It was also that time Sega was still producing consoles before it decided to focus on the video game market. The rival was known as the Sega Saturn which ended in failure. So, I thought about how this system had all the good and bad times associated with it. There were some cool games back then. Who can remember some of the best like Crash Bandicoot or the Tekken series? People were able to bring home the arcades through the Playstation but not everything was arcade perfect. There were also slow loading times like playing MK Trilogy had very laggy moments (ex. Shang Tsung morphing) or how often the game takes too long to load. Those were the fun and frustrating times of the first Playstation. Who can remember resetting the system if the load times were SO SLOW? The first isn't always better. Sometimes, the second is better. The same can be said about video games. So what games were actually made better during their second entry than their first entry? I would like to share some of these games that got more focus upon the second game than the first game. Megaman 2  The first  Megaman  game was a success but it was the second that gave the basic framework. Two more robot masters, more gameplay mechanics, and no wonder it's beloved in the fanbase. For me, this still continues to be the most unforgiving  Megaman  game for the NES era. What would be so amazing is that the game somewhat standardized both  Megaman  and  Megaman X . The game does suffer from drawbacks like you need that PIXEL PERFECT timing (and  Megaman X2  had that too) which was so argh to me. I did finish the game but I really find it overrated. I don't want to deny that while there are good things to look back to -- there are still some bad things that I could remember. One of them is studying in a rather difficult high school and barely passing every year! Not to mention the issue of high school life can be so difficult especially for a rage-prone teenager! What sucked about high school for me? Teenage years can be that stressful especially with hormones that result in acne, when I think about how some girl of my dreams treats me like I don't exist, how I often competed with a former rival for a girl's affections, how there were the cooler guys who were spoiled by their parents and not to mention loads of pressure. Yes, loads of pressure especially when you had to study subjects assigned to your year level -- subjects that I just didn't find practical because I didn't see how they'd help me in my real life career! Back then, I liked Nickelodeon during my high school to college days. I couldn't forget how watching Spongebob every time a midterm or final exam made me more relaxed than it was. But now, I just heard that Stephen Hillenburg the man behind Spongebob has passed away. So what's my thoughts? Spognebob is also at a rapid decline and it's no longer the same fun show I once enjoyed! For one, I can't accept the whole monstrosity they did to Mrs. Puff. Mrs. Puff was supposedly a kind and caring person. That episode where she planned to murder Spongebob was the last straw. The show just got into the Jump the Shark zone after the first Spongebob movie. It shows Nickelodeon no longer cares about the shows that launched it (hence I deleted by slapstick fic for that reason). Heck, I don't even blame Butch Hartman for leaving the network for good!
